12/7/11: ReFresh Beauty Tips From the Pantry: Brown Sugar Scrub

I received some great sugar scrub a few years back and used it almost every day. I lived too far from the nearest boutique to order another jar, so I knew the time would come when I would have to say farewell to my new-found love. When every last granule was gone I started adding brown sugar to the existing oil and was pleasantly surprised that it was just as great AND I was able to make it stretch just a tad bit longer. That got me thinking…I bet I can make something similar and voila, I was able to create an easy DIY body polish with simple ingredients from the pantry…happy polishing!

Brown Sugar Scrub
1 c Brown Sugar
1 c Avocado Oil
1 tbsp Aloe Vera gel
2 drops of essential oils (make sure these are pure essential oils suitable for skin)

Directions: Combine all ingredients (except for essential oils) in a bowl and whisk until blended.  Add essential oil one drop at a time, blending thoroughly after each. Pour into a jar or container with a lid. The sugar will settle, so stir before each use.

Massage a few spoonfuls onto pre-moistened skin and leave it on for 3-5 minutes while the scrub tightens your skin. Rinse off with warm water.

I love using sweet orange oil as a quick pick me up or ylang ylang to evoke happy tropical memories. Have fun mixing oils to create your own unique scent that is chemical free, all natural and leaves your skin smooth and glowing!
